why is Palin considered an "expert" on energy?

She was chairman of the state Oil and Gas Commission.

I've already explained this to you several times. Palin is a politician. Her "expertise" is political experience. As Alaska's governor, she's been very highly focused on resource development.

The US natural gas glut is a relatively new development that has confounded many energy experts. The industry expected a gas shortage and spent billions on LNG import facilities, which now seem overbuilt. AGIA was conceived and passed during the period of high gas prices and anticipated shortages.

The growing glut became apparent before Palin signed the contract with TransCanada, but unfortunately there was too much political momentum to reconsider. Now the cards have been dealt and the hand must be played. TransCanada and the competing Denali Project plan to hold open bidding seasons for gas contracts in 2010. I expect this will go badly. In the meantime, the report I cited should provoke a lot of discussion among the Alaska power structure and media...
