I mostly agree with what you say here. WE are not that capitalistic any more (one can argue about whether that is a good thing or not), and I do certainly agree we can't keep sustaining these financial shocks. The trend is that we are getting economically weaker--certainly in the sense of being self-sufficient. If this makes us more globally interdependent this may be a positive thing--as one would think this would breed mutual cooperation--especially if we all are financially linked.
