But the conclusion I draw from the fragility of the political coalition---is that country's "shift" to the center/center center/left--if that is what Obama represents--may be very transient--and swing back to the trend that was electing Republican Presidents.

This is all very intuitive on my part, and is nothing more than opinion.

To really answer this question in more scientific way one would, I think, have to statistically breakdown the voting patterns of different groups of the population both by race, class, and age and then work that into some cohesive analysis based on population trends.

If I'm right about that you what this means-- it means we're both basically sucking wind here.
