In reality, Daschle’s tax shortfall, an apparently honest mistake, was only a red flag for the larger syndrome that much of Washington still doesn’t get.

They really don't get it. For too long, they thought like the wingers on this thread thought.....they were the gov't; that some how they didn't work for us but in fact, we worked for them. The internet, emailing and video streaming have given the public a lot more access to the federal gov't. It wouldn't be such a big deal if they hadn't screwed up big time but they did. Now everyone is watching very closely and DC is just not used to it. Every time I get outraged or upset an email goes out to my representatives. Often I will call since I don't get charged for long distance. The times have changed.

This includes Timothy Geithner, the Treasury secretary. Washington hands repeatedly observe how “lucky” Geithner was to be the first cabinet nominee with an I.R.S. problem, not the second, and therefore get confirmed by Congress while the getting was good. Whether or not this is “lucky” for him, it is hardly lucky for Obama. Geithner should have left ahead of Daschle.

The more I watch Geithner in action the more my bad feelings about this guy grow. He looks like he doesn't know what the fukk he is doing. Obama needs to keep him on a short leash and fire his ass on his first screw up......which is coming.
