That's hardly sufficient evidence to conclude that South Koreans as a whole didn't want Americans there, as SilentZ insinuates.

When you look at the split in Korean political opinions today, those who've been through the Korean War will more likely than not support the American presence on the peninsula, whereas those who are around my age think exactly like you and SilentZ do. Exceptions abound, which would make any American GI wary of "ground glass in Coke bottles," but that's no excuse to oversimply history.
