Those are two very different things." What the Universe is, is presenting on the one hand an ordered space filled with material events and at least from our perspective abundant live, while on the other hand the Universe is wrought with chaotic event, paradox, irony and mystery. "A longing for purpose and eternal life is not the same thing as evidence of purpose and eternal life.' Evidence? We are human beings. Which of us is moved to accomplish the simplest of tasks without a sense of purpose. Feeding your children, convincing me of some perspective, making a living, avoiding being numbered among the insane, deciding on which shoes to wear tomorrow, righting wrong, bringing justice to the world, accomplishing career goals, simplifying your life to obtain some peace and comfort etc etc etc requires consideration of purpose. Purpose is as fundamental to our human nature as breathing. We are the evidence. Mystery is as elemental as thought. Again, we are the evidence. "But the longings in themselves inspire us to do great things. They help us to survive as a species..." Nothing is needed but to be a human being who does not deny the evidence of ourselves. It is not a mistake to be, it is simply the overwhelming fact of our existence in the universe as witnesses of the Universe. Insisting upon phisical evidence for non-material things limits you far beyond the condition of your nature, which is a contradiction to your own being and mine. You are a sentient human being, cognizant, conscious and aware. Because I presume that to be true, I also conclude you have the same evidence of purpose and mystery to draw from or to deny, as very real aspects of your existences as participating eyewitness members of this universe. The only question to ask beyond the fact and circumstance of our existence, is whether or not these very real human entities dissipate at the tip of your nose or whether there is a more wholistic application beyond your flesh. I believe there is and that the evidence is everywhere and always, for everyone who does not ignore it. I don't need to look in ancient texts, ask a sage, or messenger from God, although some of them seem to confirm my experience, choices, and purpose. I only need to be, and to be lucidly aware of being. A choice perhaps, but one that seems to me to be undeniable.
