The SS Trust fund was never my pension, nor was it yours.

In theory, it's always made sense for the gov't to "borrow" from the trust fund since that was cheapest, but the eventual requirement to repay out of income tax receipts was a permanent lie. So yes, the SS payouts will likely be reduced to 70% for somebody my age, as compared to what they are saying (according to studies I've read).

"the social security trust fund is gone!"

Why do people keep saying this?

The social security trust fund consists of paper assets. To say that paper assets are worth nothing is to say that a very large portion of the assets in the world are worthless.

The assets in the social security trust fund are also backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government.

To say that the social security trust fund is gone is to be guilty of republican hyperbolic false speak.
