Anyway my intent is/was to diminish Krugman's stature as an authority for the argument that we can afford to do this. The piece from Barro doesn't do that. It's an indication of the divide within the profession; not the quality of Krugman's arguments. There are serious arguments about Krugman's arguments but not in this Barro piece. Barro is rather reciting, which is just fine, his disagreement with one of Krugman's basic premises, which is the role of the state in our economic wellbeing.
