I agree completely. Japanese wealth has certainly caused a more consumption-oriented society than before. So they farm out semi production to Taiwan, where it can be done at lower cost.

You are correct in your interpretation of fund managers motivations also. It's classic losers game mentality. Fortunately we don't have to play that game.

AMAT Downgraded by UBD Securities

TO ALL:

Does anyone know what the laws re: market manipulation are? IMO, after a firm such as UBS downgrades, they should not be allowed to by the stock for a period of time, whether that window is 2 days or 2 weeks is debatable. But by downgrading at this point, they only exacerbate the panic surrounding this stock and create enormous opportunities for themselves at our expense. I am very skeptical of these firms and their upgrades/downgrades and believe they conspire against the individual investor to profit for their institutional clients. What do others think of such a law to prevent downside manipulation of a stock?
