And so when do we ever have to tighten our belts just a little? Never? It is this thinking IMO that is so dangerous.

I don't think that the food stamp program is over generous, enabling those in it or falling into it to "tighten their belts just a little." I may be mistaken, of course, but I never had the impression that food stamps were a windfall.

As for tightening our belts, I was the one posting here the other day that we're a nation of wimps acting like this was the Great Depression and taking shots at the "socialists." You're talking to the wrong person if you think I want to increase the welfare system.

But this is the proverbial "rainy day" for which we either save or use our credit for those things not amenable to belt tightening. IMO.
