Carlyle- for me SOX 310 or 300 and SPZ unable to break 948 is a strong signal- some one sooner or later will realise that most of techs are trading at oversold levels- I am in TXN today for Jans 90's KLAC and AMAT bought 55 and 35 calls alonwith Klic 27= picked up some ALTR and JBIL - I am protecting my down side with some active in and out- but I think this H&Q thing has really taken market by a huge surprise they have beaten the hell out of Techs but lets see.

Carlyle et. al re: options time frame:

I say take them out as long as you can afford to. You pay extra premiums for leaps but most will say it's well worth it from a risk management standpoint. These tech stocks will not stay at low multiples forever (i.e. wdc at 10 or 11) but the next several months could be rough until market finally realizes that these quality companies really aren't going down the toilet and that money parked in lower yielding (but albeit safer) bonds could be better invested in equities. Give yourself enough time for the pendulum to swing a bit further south and to then crawl back.

All the best,

mark
