Nah ... we made good progress in the '90s on both reducing the size of the Federal government (as a percent of GDP) and reducing the deficit.

---

Don't you mean made progress on reducing the GROWTH rate of both? I have never seen anything in writing that shows an actual reduction of either under Clinton.

You reduced the size of the federal government but spent more money?

Beside it isn't just the Federal Government a lot of what was done was shifting the burden to the states by unfunded mandates. I couldn't find the website that keeps track of the time we spend working for the government. The idea is they take all taxes and divide by GNP, I think, and then based on the percentage of GNP consumed by taxes calculate how long we work for the Government vs. how long we work for ourselves. My recollection is that we work into May for the Government and whatever we make after May we get to take care of ourselves. I don't know about you but what the Government provides me isnt worth 5/12 of my income.

But the point is to my knowledge that number never went down, only up. We pay more and more for less and less. And I dont care who the prez is or which party is in power it never ends.

And that doesn't count the add'l costs imposed by regualtion which has long since passed the point of being ridiculous.
