Thanks for that, Richard. Always wanting to know what makes people put up things like that. Sure Dorato can look like a promotion. It's got the perfect vehicle for that being on trend with Fruta del Norte (>13.9 million ounces gold). It's also best positioned for an area play across the border in Peru and in an under explored area. Having the major land position in that area, they are also best positions - at least promotionally - to be the "go to" company that helps others get positioned in the area.

By the way Carlos Ballon, as I understand it, has great connection in Peru and has brought the Cardero Group all it's interests there. That he already had ownership interests in these properties doesn't have much to do with whether or not the companies are promotions, does it? If it does, how is that?

As far as the whole group of companies is concerned, major investors include, Euro-Nevada, Luxor Capital, Tocqueville, ERA Resources, Passport, Sprott, Federated, Prudent Bear, Anglo Gold, and others.

Someone may be taking on one or more of these companies as a promotion, but I doubt the principals and major shareholders have much to do with it. Besides, these properties are not without substance, though suffering along with the rest of the junior sector.

On the flip side of the equation, someone could just as well be "warning" on these companies in support of their short interest, no? Hard to tell.

Anyway, I like most of the Cardero Group and hold a few. At present my largest interest among these is in ITH.

Cheers,

VP in AZ

Very intriguing article, Richard. Always good to have more than one perspective, helps on making those risk/reward calls. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Regards,
t.

"The second most important ingredient is to assure the key players have a clearly laid and profitable exit strategy in place before the promotion process begins. In the case of this stock, the track record of the assembled team suggests that the end objective in this company is not to make a mine; the end objective is to make money. Therefore the timing of the promotion is likely to coincide with the time that the original private placements that funded the company are totally vested and those holding the stock are allowed to sell, according to TSXV rules."

I don't know if this is such a good thing. Also the conviction that Dorata will become an important story is NOT based on any minerals they currently have explored. This is pure promotion. The territory these companies are looking at on the border of Peru-Ecuador may be fecund, but it is not so replete with ore deposits that you can find one simply by throwing darts at a large scale map.

Get me a geochem study. Gold ore in drainage streams. channel samples. Montoya sandstone and an intrusive. Barrick funding exploration.

Get me some meat. The vegetables are nice, and the starch is ok. Where's the beef?

I agree with EC that caution is in order here, as it should be with any explorer. Also, any stock can become a promotion (or a target for short traders). If such happens, it does not automatically mean that management is behind it.

I can point to a number of "free" advisories that promote with or without a fee and those fees can be paid by anyone - management or not. I'm sure EC can do this too.

I'm reminded here of the so-called silver mining expert who sells "peaks" at his portfolio, never mentioning that it is crammed with free and cheap stock, the very things he recommends in his "free" newsletter.

In regards to Dorato, it's an area play, something that natural springs up around significant discoveries such as Fruta del Norte. Time will tell whether or not they have anything of significance. I'm not too sure, but I think the results of a sampling survey in the El Tambo area will be out soon.

Getting back to that Web site citing Dorato as a classic promotion, they also offer their opinion that the rest of the Cardero group are promotions too, that they will write similar articles supporting that contention in near future.
Well, since that bit on Dorato was completed in early October, they have not done so. Why?

Cardero has sold it's Pampa de Pongo iron ore project, has received 2 million dollars down, is owed 10 million more by March 17, and another 188 million in a matter of months. Can anyone now reasonably argue that Cardero is a promotion?

International Tower Hill since early October has continued to advance a number of gold projects, including Livengood which is now considered by many to be a likely takeover target in that it is turning out to be one of the largest undeveloped gold deposits available in North American today. In this bad market, the company also just announced a bought deal financing. If this can still be considered a promotion, then the other corporate holders and funds here are deluded.

My question is, why does such a slick Web site purport to be the workings of one private individual who is merely looking out for the little guy, and doing so with extraordinary effort? Such internet, or newsletter behavior always raises suspicions of fraud in me too, and it's not about the companies such people attack.

The fact is, every promoter and every basher has an agenda, and neither one of them has to have any connection with the management of the companies they talk about.

Yes, I'm biased and I admit it. I hold ITH, DRI and CDU, along with other issues not part of the Cardero Group. I do not purport to offer "free" advice to anyone out of selflessness. However, I will offer one very strong opinion of mine. That is, anyone who directly or indirect says, "Trust me," is a liar.
