In a working mine it would feel a bit safer, the one i was in was definitely non-working, the start of its adit likely dated from the twenties or before, and such props as existed were just crooked little poles cut from nearby bush ... mostly we were out riding horses, old fellow had several he didn't have time to exercise, and he was celebrating his sixty--fifth birthday the next day, also first pension cheques from thirty years of working in LA, often on movie lots and some as extra ['you can see me in the chariot scene in Ben Hur', or maybe it was Spartacus], he was going back to roots, had a place near Todos Santos BCS ... the mine he'd seen as a boy, his family had something to do with a nearby one that couldn't be entered, he sure liked the idea of getting out gold and silver but didn't want to go any further in there than i did I did a bit of panning as a teenager, had a crude sort of rocker setup to reduce the bulk, fooled around a few creeks, mostly one that was fairly easy to get to, where the chinese had worked it thoroughly for years, but i had a bit of luck right off, not enough to pay wages but it was a pleasant thing to do Most canuck speculators began by playing resource stocks, to many they're the only real kind worthy of attention ... there may be a greater early exposure to the outdoors involved in this, it seems to me the more citified the person the less likelihood they will do resources ... except maybe for a few who grew up around Howe Street -g-
