Economics is just the opposite. You can't run "simulations" on a global economy, change one variable, and see the outcome. Many financial institutions try (and we sell VERY well to those customers), but in the end their models will always be flawed in one way or another.

Best thing you can do is look at examples of local economies such as California who has screwed themselves over with runaway spending, then wonder why jobs are leaving the state. Even Intel finally shut down its last fab in California (though that was a long time coming) because it makes more sense to run fabs in other states.
