Obama is trying to manipulate the media cycle.

He did it very successfully throughout the campaign. Doing it as President is inexcusable however. Taking questions from a blogger is just f-ing nuts. How long will media outlets be snubbed by the One before they blow a rod and start torching him?

"Obama is trying to manipulate the media cycle."

They ALL do.

It's called 'politics'.

That's why (& the recently-departed-from-Washington younger Bush admin. was expert at this...) they announce unpopular stuff late in the day (after deadlines have passed for the evening news operations) and or on a Friday (when viewership is especially low).

And release popular stuff when they can make the biggest media splash and call the most attention to it....

The tools of politics. :-)
