Took a while to download that, have mercy willya, old broke loggers can only afford dialup -g- ... they sure had it easy in Michigan though eh, out here by the fifties the flat ground had been logged off, we were all sidehill gougers, one leg shrivelled up shorter than the other, you had guys who could work one way along the slope, others who could work the other way, they had to cooperate to get the whole setting done ... which wasn't easy, probably inevitable that the two became known as Social Crediters and CCFers

Got an old McCulloch, don't know model but bigger/heavier than, and almost certainly predates, the 797, owner's widow who gave it to me says he put it away in working condition ... first saw i used a lot was an 090 Stihl, 36in bar, two or three years later the 050 came out and we were doing skidder logging on top of round mountains on the Island, packing ten pounds less all day sure made a difference, and in small wood it cut just as fast ... now have 066s mostly, couple of 046s [except that Stihl turned the model numbers around, to 660 and 460] ... never used a Pioneer ... had a small Homelite once for a pickup saw, that was just before the 050 came out ... had a Skil, which got laughed at but actually worked fairly well, for around the ranch ... mostly all Stihl and Husky now in the woods, probably two-thirds Husky

First Stihls here were called Hitler's Revenge, one faller had been with the occupation forces until well after the war, saw a big two-man saw being used, said it would be a great idea if they either made it lighter or put wheels on it ... handfallers sneered at young guys packing so much weight around ... now 'handfaller' refers to using a saw on foot as opposed to some humoungous machine snipping them off, how times change

... and you can't stop it either - good luck bewailing progress, folks -

'Plea to control gold price

Chamber moots a ban on online trading of gold

RAJAPALAYAM: A plea to the Union Commerce Ministry to control the price of gold has been made by the Rajapalayam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

In a memorandum submitted to the Union Commerce Minister, Kamalnath, the chamber secretary S. N. Rama Raju, pointed out that there had been a spurt in the price of gold which made the yellow metal unaffordable for the common man.

The poor, the memorandum said, found it difficult to buy even the minimum jewellery like ‘mangala sutra’ for weddings under current prices.

If this trend continued, the government would lose the confidence of common man, the statement cautioned.

The chamber mooted a ban on online trading of gold that led to an artificial demand.

It wanted the government to bar banks from doing business in gold. There should also be a ceiling on keeping stock of gold at all levels.

The chamber appealed to the government to take all steps to bring down the price of the yellow metal.
