What I'm trying to understand is what Microsoft's definition was when Windows 95 was first released, and whether/how that definition has changed over time. I certainly am unwilling to accept their lawyers' statements about what Windows 95 is now as dispositive regarding what Microsoft once believed Windows 95 was.

You've perhaps heard the old saw "actions speak louder than words."
