The company is already saving money by the amount of the salary that would have been paid, so covering the health care expenses should be doable for most large companies.<<

When a company considers layoffs, the management first decides on a dollar amount that they want to save, then figures out which employees to lay off to meet that number. If you add other costs to the process, the net effect will be that more people will be laid off.

So while it seems like a good idea, I'm not sure it is.
