The law may still exist but enforcing it is a pipe dream at best, if they were foolish enough to try to enact it again. Taking away gold from people would signal official panic over the dollar, basically financial suicide for the US currency system. No one knows who has how much gold in their homes and bank boxes, and no one could come check without a warrant carrying probable cause. How many extra cops and Treasury agents do we have sitting around doing nothing at the moment to cover millions of homes?
