Regarding the Madoff affair: The "Bezzle" will shrink now.

"At any given time, there exists an inventory of undiscovered embezzlement in, or more precisely not in, the country's businesses and banks. This inventory — perhaps it should be called the bezzle — varies in size with the business cycle. In good times, people are relaxed, trusting, and money is plentiful. And even though money is plentiful, there are always many people who need more. Under these circumstances, the rate of embezzlement grows. The rate of discovery falls off, and the bezzle increases sharply."

"In Depression all this is reversed. Audits are penetrating and meticulous. Commercial morality is enormously improved. The bezzle shrinks."

--- JK Galbraith from his book "The Great Depression".

Kenneth, the reality of business was lost by the inexperienced White House. Why they came out and said what they did we will probably never know, but you MUST stop believing those liars. They lied throughout the campaign and are continuing to do so now that they have control. It makes no sense, except that partisans like yourself think that the fairy Godmother will simply wave her democrat wand a make everything better...how ridiculous.

Caterpillar CEO sees more company layoffs

President Barack Obama's stimulus plan may be good for Caterpillar Inc., but the company's chief executive says the equipment maker will probably have to lay off more staff before it starts thinking about rehiring any of the more than 22,000 employees it already plans to cut.

Even if a stimulus plan passes, it likely will not have an effect on the economy until late this year or early 2010, CEO Jim Owens said after a town hall meeting with the president and Caterpillar (
"The reality is we'll probably have to have more layoffs before we can start hiring again," Owens said without elaborating on timing or specific numbers.

Owens seemed to back away from Obama's assertionthat the Caterpillar CEO had promised him he would rehire some of the laid-off workers if Congress approves a sweeping stimulus bill. The company has struggled with lower demand amid the global economic downturn.

The severity and swiftness of the recession, Owens said, makes adding jobs back quickly unrealistic.

Caterpillar Inc. plans to rescind some of the 22,000 layoffs the firm recently announced — once the stimulus is signed into law.
