Then how bout some good news, even if it's from like 2000 miles away.
I managed to join our local gun club. It's not easy to get into: there's a membership cap, and you need two references.

The ex was kind enough to say that I've always hit the beer and not her hand.

(I made that part up. I don't point guns at people .... haven't yet had a real good reason to, and I hope I never do.)

But I am dusting off my boxes&boxes of handloading supplies, figuring out how and where one buys powder&ball around here, and getting ready to exercise my collection of "shootin'arn".

And No, I won't be shooting Arn, even though he banned the fifty-caliber in this state. I got around that by buying me a .416 Barrett, which is the fifty necked down to accept a machined-brass round with a diameter of .. yup, you guessed it. Point 416666... is 5/12 of an inch. Fun factette du jour!
The bullet is two inches long and has a unity (1.000 or better) ballistic coefficient. At a recent Extreme Distance shoot-off, 200-2500 yards, the .416 wiped the floor with the .50 in terms of accuracy and retained energy.

My backyard looks upon the crest of Table Mountain. I could hang a few manhole covers there... only trouble is the letters of complaint when the misses end up in Columbia, a touristy gold rush town five miles NE of here. (big cheez-eating grin)

cheers js
