Fay Vincent and Bart Giamotti both appeared to have the genuine interests of the game in mind when they served their terms as commissioner. Giamotti passed on, Vincent got run out of town by the owners for rocking the boat. Everyone forgets that the Commissioner is there at the discretion of the owners, dating back to the appointment of Judge Landis in response to the Black Sox scandal. The owners have no interest in cleaning up the game unless and until they are first hurt in their pocketbooks by the corruption. jpg
