yes, Dems were able to achieve 49 seats in Senate in the last two years of the Bush White House, and then far more along with Obama's election, but I will never forget how fiscally irresponsible the GOP was for the first 6 years of the Bush Presidency. It was a wholesale abandonment of the GOP principles that made me a lifelong Republican and one of the key reasons they lost my vote. Now, the Dems are trying to clean up the mess. I hope they are successful, but the way I see it, the hole is now so damn deep, that it will take a miracle to climb out of it. I'm sure the GOP will be downright gleeful if the probabilities pan out and the Dems are unsuccessful at getting us out of this hole. They will be gleeful until they realize that the ship that is sinking is the only thing keeping them and the rest of us from drowning.
