Patient investors should start buying chip stocks, UBS said, as inventory levels are peaking and factory production cuts bottom. The firm upgraded the sector view to positive from negative, recommending Altera Corp. (ALTR, $16.00, $0.31, 1.98%), ASML Holding NV (ASML, $17.92, $0.70, 4.07%) and Marvell Technology Group Ltd. (MRVL, $8.20, $0.27, 3.40%) among other "high-quality" chip names. The firm said some near-term risks remain, but chip stock should see recovery starting in the second half of 2009, barring further demand drops.
