"IYO is it okay for a pregnant woman to abuse alcohol and drugs as much as she wants? After all its her body.

Participation in sports like boxing, gymnastics, etc. The argument could be made that such participation while pregnant should be subject to Dr. approval. The woman would pass a physical because pregnancy is seen as a healthy condition. So how do you deny her participation in sports? We have a different medical question. She could probably be denied because of extra risk of harm to the mother due to accident but that would not be the genuine concern, especially during the first trimester.

Whose body is the child a part of?

"IYO is it okay for a pregnant woman to abuse alcohol and drugs as much as she wants? After all its her body."

The woman has a medical condition she may or may not be aware of....your doctor often recommends changes in lifestyle for your medical condition but you don't have to follow his recommendation. And a drug addict or smoker is unlikely to stop her habit because she is pregnant.... Non addicted mothers will most often make the lifestyle change with her baby's welfare at heart....

To answer your question....no, I don't think it's OK for a woman to use drugs or alcohol or smoke when prego....and I don't think it's OK for you to tell her she can't abort...
