I think those are your words, not his....I haven't read his exact quote but I would think he's referring to natural "selection", not forces....eg an animal born with a physical advantage over the others of his species... if that advantage allows him to survive while many others die, more of the animals with the advantageous physical feature will be born until they become a new species... There was no grand designer making model changes on the fly.... There is also sexual selection where a female of a species is attracted to male that has a physical feature that makes him more attractive to her....that feature will begin to appear more often until a new species evolves... His computer example is an illustration of the old saw that says, "if you give a monkey a typewriter and enough time, he will duplicate all the great works of literature"... His computer, in this case, is the monkey and continued to generate random combinations of words, from maybe 50-100 words he put into the computer, until the correct words appeared in the proper order....is this what he did???? The state lottery example I gave you works in a similar way...you must pick typically 6 numbers out of 1-49 or 1-99.....Six numbers are then drawn randomly from a drum and if you have those numbers you win the lottery...the odds are astronomical to be able to do with one guess, but with hundreds of millions of guesses, ie the 100's of millions of tickets sold with guesses, some person or person will eventually have those numbers.. If those winning numbers were GUIDED, the lottery would be rigged and illegal..
