I made all my communications with the senators and congressmen through their website email feature. They all for ask basically the same information, which I would supply anyway on a written communication: name, address, phone number, email address. The websites differ a little in the issues pull-down lists. Sometimes I had to guess at which issue applied, because they weren't directly related to the bailout. Specter's automated response was a little snippy, implying that he didn't really want the communications. Thank you for taking the time to contact me. I receive a large volume of E-mails, phone calls, faxes and letters every week from concerned citizens like yourself. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of mail, I can only respond if you're a resident of Pennsylvania. If you need to find out who your U.S. Senator is please go to www.senate.gov. I got very prompt acknowledgements from Specter and Collins, but not any as yet from any of the politicians from my own state, nor from Snowe. I kept my message concise: "I was disappointed in your decision to support the bailout bill. Please vote NO on the final vote." In the past I often wrote my messages to politicians in longhand and mailed them. One of the websites indicates that snail mail is being delayed because of security threats, so I decided to switch to email contact.
