Obama said that health care is a "right" during the campaign.

That's open to interpretation. He said it "should be a right." He may have meant that it's a human right. He's good with words, though, so I don't think he would have been that sloppy. I suspect he meant that the US should make it an entitlement program.

There is no end to the "rights" humans possess.

I recognize where you're coming from, though, and I share your distaste for that approach.

Once the public starts embracing the idea, that rights are not just rights to not have someone do something unjust to them, or impose extremely unreasonable restrictions on them, but can include the "right" to have people do things for them, or funnel money to their favorite causes or interests, then its hard to stop.

Its a corruption of the term rights in my opinion.
