When I asked him why a guy with his smarts was bagging groceries, he said he took the job for the medical benefits. He would rather do a minimum job 8 hours a day and spend his time on intellectual pursuits. Many bright people are like this. Reading is more important that money. Or he could be a drunk who realizes that he would rather have the time to drink. Or a beach, ski, or dance bum. It's a question of pursuing your own happiness.
