I agree that was at least part of it. You had VA house loans come on line with zero down and closing costs paid by the seller. With new homes, that means it's essentially in the loan amount. As I said, the aircraft industry seemed to sprout up over night, but the rail industry suffered, probably due to the export to the USSR under lend lease. The USSR only made about TWO locomotives during the war. The US gave them incredible amounts of rail equipment.

The GI bill means free education, and what ever technology developments during the war giving productivity increases. Lots of positives coming out of ww2 for the US. Confidence was high too due to winning the war, though certain slogans made the rounds...
