Not so unreasonable.

If the deficit explodes, then explodes again, then you look at it your starting from a very high level. Letting it explodes again, is in some sense just the same old thing, but practically it could be much worse.

Going in to debt to buy a fancy car might be affordable. Doing it again to get another car is extravagant and might strain your budget. If so, doing it once more is foolish.
