I'm totally with you on taxing gasoline and in fact I think we should add a $1 per gallon tax immediately. Actually I've held this opinion for at least a decade and anytime I bring it up, I get lambasted with why we can't do that. Politically the idea has softened up just a smidgen but I would guess that it will be years if ever before we see any meaningful action. Meanwhile we'll continue to waste the resource and make our oil producing enemies richer. If there were any significant proposal by our politicians to add a gasoline tax it would be something like, starting in 2020 we will put a $1 Federal tax on gasoline phased over 20 years. They would then count on inflation to make it more meaningless. Our politicians simply don't have the balls to tax gasoline or imported oil for that matter.
