Additionally, after WWII we were the only economy left standing that could make anything--so who did everyone have to buy from?

Good comment and part of the reason I find Krugmans analogy of spending today as needing to be like WWII so strange. The comparison in just about every sense is bizarre.

Great point.

Krugman's weakness is looking to the past for answers instead of the facts on the ground. But he's slowly getting there. Today's article had the plaintive admission that consumer debt will have to be paid down, and this will take time.
