spoke with Mr. Angus again this a.m. regarding Goto's comments: Is it possible that Goto's comments regarding Cymer's lasers at Nikon came directly from Komatsu and not from Nikon: "Very possible. We know there are certain elements in Japan, expressly at Komatsu, which would like to see more of their systems in place in that country and they will do what they can (my comment: take this to mean, use the media) to further this goal." Is it possible that Goto's comments regarding Cymer were made as a dubious means for lowering Cymer's stock price for the express intention of buying shares of Cymer cheaper to add to existing ownership positions? "I don't think that is the likely case. More likely Komatsu will say and do what they can to promote their line of lasers. This gas leak versus gas life - is there even any inkling of truth to this? "Not at all. None. There simply is no gas leak. I have no idea what he is talking about here or where he could have come up with this." (my interpretation - its an out and out lie) Is it true that for a manufacturer to carry both the Cymer laser and the Komatsu laser that this would be doubling the develop and learning curve costs of supporting both lines? "We certainly think so, and I believe the industry currently agrees with that assumption. You can have different lasers functioning within different lines, as long as the individual line remains constant throughout in regard to systems employed, this is possible." But even though you have the potential of different lasers operating in separate line environments, this would still increase the cost for the manufacture to supply separate support, tools, training, etc. for both lines (I'm referring to Goto's comments that Nikon would purchase 21 lasers from Komatsu)? "Yes. Not only that, but even if Komatsu sold 21 lasers to Nikon it would take Nikon YEARS to bring those lasers into the production and development process. This is why our current market position is so important as we build our worldwide organization. We're already there and able to meet the immediate demand for these systems."
