Exports in Europe are counted as a truck dropping the goods 300Km away. Therefore intra-Europe trade is huge. When it drops, anyone around drop in tandem. The case of the US the export destinations are more varied. US has a different geography of trade.

You must note that Europe was the first to export its way out of poverty. Germany was the last country that did that. Japan, first, and followed by the rest of Asia was the last.
