Not bleak if you are short, have some shorts, paid attention to your VaR, etc. to offset your long positions.

The part of the story they don't tell is the trading floor of the NYSE is obsolete in the electronic world.

Just a gathering of old cows wandering around an empty field spouting their supposed wisdom when the camera lights them up.
Comical.
