FWIW, Barron's had an article a couple of weeks ago on Canadian banks. It mentioned Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS.TO) as the preferred choice because it had the smallest footprint in US mtg mkt. They also have significant exposure in S. America. (That was viewed as a positive a couple of weeks ago anyway.)

It's difficult to imagine the CDN banks not suffering as US has a meltdown. US is still Canada's largest trading partner. The Auto pact is a good chunk of it too, I suspect.
