We need to reduce the cost of SS and Medicare. Increasing the retirement age would be a good start.

I agree. Taking other tax money doesn't solve the problem; it just displaces it. As for the investment idea, that must have been promoted originally before investment went in the tank. It seems like a joke in this climate.

The only way to "fix" SS is to reduce future benefits. Increasing the retirement age would seem the least worst way to do that. People live longer than they used to. They can work longer and/or save enough to keep themselves for a few extra years until SS kicks in.
