There are many coal mines that are not unionized. They keep the unions out by offering a better deal than what the unions can offer. I'm not really schooled in union busting, so I don't know how to make it happen.

I think that the unions are taking care of themselves though. In nature there are parasites that eventually kill off their host. The parasite's fate is pretty much sealed at that point. The US Auto industry is having a slow and painful death, but when it happens, the UAW goes too.

Some would say that the Auto industry is of strategic importants to the US and therefore it is more than just an economic consideration.
