I have a memory like that too. My Dad's General Appliance store was next door to a Chinese Restaurant called The Golden Pheasant.

The proprietor was a delightful Chinese named Ruby Wong who ran the place with her nummah one son, Jack.

They were both very frugal, but they made great food. Ruby bought a new Cadillac every year, her only extravagance.

One year my brother had his fifth birthday and we celebrated it at the Golden Pheasant. He managed to lock himself in the ladies' restroom; he locked the outside door AND the interior door to the toilet space, where he flushed the toilet over and over again.

The Golden Pheasant was a small restaurant, but we soon had every patron crowding around the passage way to the kitchen giving us advice on how to open the door.

Finally Jack got a hacksaw and started sawing the lock on the outside door, whereupon my bro opened the inner door and saved us the trouble.
