Re: "You didn't give reasons or context for the other deficits," Correct! 50 years of American economic history would require a Hell of a lot of time and space to even begin to explain! :-) (The Heritage chart included NINE Presidencies --- many of them two terms... while the numbers I posted even earlier also included two even earlier post-WW II American Presidents: Truman and Eisenhower, making for ELEVEN Presidencies.) Re: "... just the figures as percentage of GDP. So Obama gets the same." That's right! Of course Obama needs to be treated exactly the same by the history books. (ALL DATA was taken from the official U.S. Budget document of 2009.) So --- just as SOON as Obama proposes his first annual budget, gets it approved, then it will go down in the History books at the end of the next year. (His FIRST Obama era budget will be the American budget for FY 2010.) Also --- the Heritage chart (and the information I posted earlier) contained a lot of official deficit numbers from FOUR YEAR Presidential terms (& one hybrid Kennedy/Johnson four year Presidency, and one hybrid Nixon/Ford four year Presidential term), and the records of several Presidencies which went for the legal maximum of two terms... but there are no 'one year' Presidential terms shown in the collected statistics. <GGG> So, Tim... imagine you will have to wait a few more years before Obama's first term get's penciled into the official numbers....
