Years ago, Boeing had a Employee Suggestion Box where the Employee could put all the suggestions they could see in their own department where if changed, the Company could save money. Boeing tried the appropriate ideas, and employees received a cash bonus related to the amount of money the company saved over the year. Good ideas and from a viewpoint that many of the heads of departments perhaps wouldn't see, as they weren't at the level where some of the potential savings were really noticed. Everyone who entered a good suggestion got a written "atta boy/girl" letter and that was great as well.
