started skiing when i was 9, it was that or ice hockey that most kids picked up on for winter shits n giggles....of course there were many times spent on a large inner tube sliding down a trail....one of the local ski areas had gone out of business and we used to head up there at night feeling tipsy....we would hike all the way to the top and slide back down...i'll always remember the last time we did this, there had been a large ice storm on top of about 15" of snow so the surface of the snow had turned into a skating rink....we were all pie eyed and decided to go tubing...we made it almost to the top as it was icy as heck.....well needless to say when we launched downhill the amount of speed we would pick up was GREATLY underestimated, if estimated at all i now recall....there was no means of braking as 5 tubes screamed downhill, so we guzzled our beers and braced for the inevitable launch (i think the olympic ski jump record was broken on that night) off the trail and impact down a huge bank into the gravel parking lot.....man my back still hurts some 30 years later.....ouch!......we still laugh about it today when we all get together.....lol....vbg
