Get serious? what a wild-eyed notion. and defend against or prepare for... exactly.

I have hopes that Gates truly realizes that making a bunch of big stuff to fight a war with China or Russia is not the current, or coming anytime soon, reality. And weapons designed for that, and silly airy-fairy it's-so-cool, futuristic stuff is stupid. why build a shield against a maybe yet send boots (filled with young people) in on the ground with inadequate body armor? crazy. it simply is to appease old cold-warriors, and people making fortunes off of unworkable 'weapons'. We can cut so much from the budget while at the same time supplying and caring for our troops better. go figure.

and have money left over to deal with climate change and the fiscal crisis, and educate our children and provide healthcare to all. and not only fix our infrastucture but take it into the 21st century and set the stage, as those at the beginning of the 20th century did for us, for the 22nd century. why spend our last and borrowed dollars to defend something that is falling apart? fix it for fax sake. make it better than ever. that is American. It is Roman to squander fortunes and fiddle while the empire burns. we are Americans. Not Romans.

so there. oh, and unlike the Romans, the world loves us when we are the best we can be (cheap steal from the commercial). Let's make that love well deserved. smile.
