employee got the money, usually a few bucks.. never saw large amount. the suggestive system over time gathered dust. many felt if you had a great idea you never saw it rewarded rather company took it as previously through through and rejected or in implementation stage... hence system died.

The person who sent in the suggestion got the money if it was accepted....Once in awhile it was a group of people who entered the suggestion....then they all split the award....those tended to be more money because it was a suggestion by the entire department...

By the same token....Several years ago, I belonged to an National professional association.....For several years, their BIG fundraiser was:
--Buy a ticket....$10 each or 6 for $50....
--Put in the huge drawing drum...
--When the ticket was drawn, winner won one third of the entire amount that had been donated.....

It was GREAT....always lots of money was donated, and at least one person/company in the group came home with a nice "door prize".....Generally several thousand dollars.

We've done that on smaller levels for Non Profit fundraising, and it is always successful....for everyone who participates!
