He is right. I've pointed this out before.

There are a lot of similarities, many more than the Great Depression, and what happened back then was dire. In the US, it was over in about 5 years. But, it was the trigger for it, rising exports of cheap food and increasing industrialization was what killed the economies in Europe. In Europe, it lasted for 20-25 years. And it planted seeds of the fall of the British Empire.

Which is why I favor trying to intervene. The consequences of doing nothing can be pretty brutal.
