Rob,
I don't know the answer to that question, but keep in mind that
their construction costs are lower and they don't have the same
environmental regulations to contend with which also reduces
fab costs and overhead.

Maybe one of our thread can answer the direct labor cost aspect.
Kumar any ideas?

Rob- Chemist : This could be a late response. Labor portion is pretty heavy.

Let me give you the process of chip making.

You have the wafer processing ( This is where AMAT is playing major role)
next is Esort. This is pretty labor intensive
next is cutting the wafer -labor intensive
next is testing- labor intensive
next is packaging- still labor and depending on packaging model cost will vary.
next is assembling and testing - pretty labor intesive.
next is final testing- labor intensive.

I say labor intensive in the sense that labor charge is the major portion in that activity.

I hope it gives you some idea.

Regards

Kumar
