spreads change based upon the number of market makers willing to make the market and their desire for business and risk. spreads change frequently and can very intraday ie if you see the bid stay the same and the ask go down or you see the bid go up and the ask stay the same, the mm's view of the security is changing--these are important several publications track the spreads, they are currently at very high levels because the mm's see a volatile market in the near future
