Making mistakes, or even being absolutely convinced that your mistakes where correct, and then calling people on being wrong because they don't agree, isn't lying.

He could have been lying, but I wouldn't call someone a liar without real evidence and that's hard to get (which is one reason I almost never call someone a liar, although sometimes I'll suggest its possible).

Also in this particular case I doubt he was lying. If he was lying he would have known how easy it was to prove his point wrong. It would have only made sense to have made the point if he really believed it and thus thought it would be proven correct when people looked up the facts.
